Curriculum Intent

Through the study of geography each pupil acquires special knowledge, skills and attitudes which will help them throughout their lives. Geography, more than most subjects, enables students to make sense of economic, political, social and environmental issues. It has a special role in fostering international understanding through teaching about different cultures and helps students to understand their environment and how human activity uses and misuses it.

Curriculum Time

Key Stage 3: Geography is delivered by a subject specialist with the majority of students receiving 1 dedicated Geography lesson per week (alongside other Humanities subjects).
Key Stage 4: Students opting for GCSE Geography receive 3 dedicated Geography lessons, delivered by a subject specialist.

Qualifications

Depending on ability, students have the opportunity to undertake the following, nationally recognised, qualifications:

Entry Level Certificate in Geography: Level 1- Level 3

GCSE Geography: Foundation or Higher

Geog123 for Key Stage 3 books: A series of books from Oxford University Press.
Kerboodle Online Learning Environment: Accessible to teacher and students within school
AQA Higher and Foundation Text books: Used within GCSE lessons.

Career Opportunities

Geographers enter a very wide range of career areas and put simply there is no such thing as a geography job, just jobs that Geographers do.

A geography GCSE will support college applications for Geography A-Level, Environmental Science or a range of other courses.
