GCSE RE
In year 10 and 11, students will have the opportunity to choose to take Religious Studies at GCSE level to AQA specifications. There are 2 components examined at the end of year 11. The examination will consist of;
- 1 Written exam for each component lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes each.
What is assessed?
Students will be assessed on;
- Beliefs
- Teachings
- Practices
This will be done through the study of the following religions;
- Christianity
- Buddhism
- Hinduism
What is assessed?
Students will be assessed on either
- Four Religious, Philosophical and ethical Studies Themes or
- Two Religious, Philosophical and Ethical Studies Themes and Two Textual Studies Themes.
Religious, Philosophical and Ethical Studies Themes:
- Theme A: Relationships and Families.
- Theme B: Religion and Life.
- Theme C: The Existence of God and revelation.
- Theme D: Religion, Peace and Conflict.
- Theme E: Religion, Crime and Punishment.
- Theme F: Religion, human Rights, and Social Justice
Textual Studies Themes:
- Theme G: St Mark’s Gospel – The Life of Jesus
Thematic Studies
- Theme H St Mark’s Gospel as a source of religious, moral and spiritual truth.
